Does anybody know any good computer startup program reference website or online guide?
I'm trying to clean my computer out of unecessary programs that start automatically at start up that may be slowing down my computer. Does anybody have any suggestion where I can find a good online reference guide for startup programs that I can look at to determine if I need all the programs that begin at startup of my computer or even to see if some of them might be malicious? Any help is appreciated.

If you have Windows Vista the Windows Defender program provides a list of programs that start up - open Windows Defender, then click on Tools, then click on Software Explorer. This will provide you with a list of Startup Programs and Currently Running programs, etc.
Your Registry might have entries that were not properly deleted when software was uninstalled, and the computer has to try to find nonexistent files.
You can use the CCleaner program to find some of these entries and delete them, it provides a check box for allowing deletion. It also will list your startup programs (in another area of the program).
