What is the pathophys resp failure in septic shock?
Thus, a person goes into septic shock from urosepsis. So now, yes who have respiratory failure and intubated. I need to understand why they have respiratory failure. Does anyone know? Thank you! thanks Clint
I Thanks for the question. The response is called acute lung injury (ALI) or acute (formerly called adult) respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). discharge of any kind (including septic tanks) is the factor most common trigger of ARDS, which almost always leads to respiratory failure requiring intubation and mechanical ventilation. The proposed pathophysiology is complex, but in short, is a systemic approach to the inflammation response syndrome induced by sepsis reactions leading to a induced cytokine cascade that leads to increased permeability of alveolar capillaries in the lungs, which in turn causes pulmonary edema and hypoxemic respiratory failure. From a clinical perspective, ARDS is a miserable condition and has a devastating mortality rate. From an academic standpoint, is one of the most interesting pathological inflicts on the human body - young or old, healthy or weak. ADDENDUM: You're welcome:)
